INFORM - The first step in effective risk management is to gather information about the risks.  Once the risks have been identified, action can be taken to implement the hierarchy of controls, i.e. Eliminate, Substitute, Engineering, Administrative & PPE.

INSTRUCT - Once the risks have been identified and hierarchy of controls have been designed, employees need to be instructed on how to work with or around the risks.  Work Instructions, Standard Operating Procedures, Safe Work Procedures, Emergency Procedures, etc. are all ways of addressing this faset of risk management.

TRAIN - The next step in the cycle of risk management is to raise awareness and train personnel about the risk and mitigation measures put in place to reduce the chances of incidents occuring.

REVIEW - Once the risks have been identified, procedures put in place and training done, we close the loop of risk management through reviewing, observing, behavior management and auditing to ensure our approach towards risk mitigation is effective and working.   This process is on-going and needs to be monitored on a regular basis.
